“To love a person is to learn the song that is in their heart and sing it to them when they have forgotten.”

— Anne Garbing, author

Chani Getter's first book, Mapito: Embrace Yourself opens the door to finding the song that lives in your heart.

A collection of stories, from Chani's own life and those of some of their therapy clients, Mapito blends personal narrative with evidence-based therapy practices and age-old wisdom to provide a clear pathway to personal transformation.

Mapito is an invitation to breathe, to notice, to experience, to celebrate, to grieve, to sing, and to be.

Mapito will aid you in singing the song that lives inside of you even when you have forgotten how to sing.

ABOUT CHANI

CHANI GETTER (they/them) is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and an ordained One Spirit Interfaith Minister, who was raised in an ultra-orthodox Hasidic Jewish home. At the age of 23, they left an arranged marriage and, as a single parent, began a journey of self-discovery. They joined the staff of Footsteps in 2013 and was instrumental in launching the Family Justice Program. Now as the Scholar in Residence, Chani provides training to deepen cultural competency and to improve quality of service for others who work with those existing insular communities.

Chani has a private practice in Bergen County, NJ where they are a speaker, a writer, a psychotherapist, and a spiritual leader. They are an award-winning activist and educator whose life and work have been featured in two documentary films, “One of Us” (2017) and “Devout” (2011), as well as numerous articles and TV specials. Chani’s powerful storytelling and non-judgmental approach creates time and space where people can connect to their authentic selves, and their deepest yearnings, to build a life beyond the limitations they have encountered.
